The View from Above

What better way to see all of Palm Springs than by air? There are actually a variety of options for this, but the most notable one is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. In just 15 minutes (one-way), you’re whisked up to two stops, Valley Station at 2,643 feet and Mountain Station at 8,516 feet. Talk about panoramic views!

Two rotatable trams make the ascent and descent and carry up to 80 passengers each. Did you know there are two other rotating trams in the world? You can find them in Engelberg, Switzerland and Cape Town, South Africa. This would be a really fun date idea, or a way to entertain the kids because it’s possible to combine lunch or dinner along with this spectacular view! There are two dining options at the top of the tramway: Peaks is a fine dining restaurant with views of the Coachella Valley (probably better-suited for you and your sweetheart), while Pines Café is more casual and offers cafeteria-style accommodations (a better choice for kids). Cars depart approximately every half hour from 10:00 a.m. Monday-Friday and 8:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. The last car ascends at 8:00 p.m. and comes back down at 9:45 p.m., which is something to keep in mind for your planning.

Another popular way to live the Palm Springs lifestyle is to hot air balloon over the desert. The valley’s climate makes it a perfect place to drift into the gorgeous desert skies. This super peaceful experience is probably better suited for adults, and certainly anyone looking for a romantic outing. The balloons float over golf courses, vineyards, polo fields, orchards, and more, and the experience is somewhat spontaneous in that your flight path is determined by the breeze. There are a variety of hot air balloon companies in the desert that offer guided tours and other amenities like champagne, birthday cakes, and more. Generally, both sunrise and sunset flights are available.

If you’ve never seen the desert landscape from above, it’s high-time that you do. The desert has some of the most gorgeous weather year-round in the country, so why not take advantage of it and see things in a different light? These heights offer views that are truly impressive.
